Tallahassee, FL - Seven years ago, a miracle came into our lives: Taylor Madison. Life changed completely, and for the better. If you told me back then Taylor would need nine heart surgeries by the time she was 3, I would have fallen apart and said there was no way I could handle it. After she was born, I wondered how I go on if I lost her. But God was watching over her.

Taylor was born with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries, which includes transposed arteries and ventricular inversion. She also had a ventricular septal defect and complete heart block. Children’s Hospital Boston performed a new but promising surgery called the double-arterial switch, a corrective procedure that would allow Taylor to live a normal life. Taylor was the 29th patient to undergo the double-switch procedure there.

The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. These diseases, the Nation's No.1 and No.3 killers, claim more than 865,000 American lives a year.
